Issue 64

First, I must say a huge congratulations to our fantastic Friends of Poverest and the entire school community for making last Saturday's summer fair such an incredible success. We had record numbers attending and raised a record amount of money, which is wonderful news and we are incredibly grateful. The atmosphere was brilliant, and it really showcased the strong community spirit we have here at Poverest. Thank you to everyone who organised, volunteered, and attended. Events like these remind me why our school community is so special.

Year 5 had a wonderful day trip to the Science Museum in London on Thursday, and I know they came back buzzing with excitement about all they'd learned and experienced. These educational visits are so valuable in bringing learning to life beyond the classroom walls.

This week has been particularly special as we've welcomed back many of our previous Poverest pupils who are currently on their secondary school work experience. It's been absolutely wonderful to see how well they've developed since leaving us, and they've been such a great help around our school. I'm hoping that some of them might be inspired to consider teaching as a career – we could certainly use more passionate educators! I was also at a celebration event at a secondary school this week, and it was lovely to see more of our ex-pupils there, now grown into wonderful young adults who have gone on to achieve great things. One of the most important things we do at primary school is instil positive values in children and ensure they learn from early mistakes, which is why it's so rewarding to see these values still evident as they grow into adulthood.

Unfortunately, the trim trail hasn't been signed off yet, but I'm hopeful this will happen next week. We've now confirmed our final Celebration of Learning date, which will be at 2pm on Monday, 21st July. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to discuss your child's end-of-year report and see their learning in action.

Finally, I wish Year 4 the very best for their sleepover at school tonight! What an exciting adventure for them. A huge thank you to all the staff who have arranged this special opportunity for our children

Many thanks,

Mr Haylock

Focus Week - Reception

Reception has had a fantastic term learning all about traditional tales! We have had a wonderful time exploring different fairy tales together. We had to  investigate what happened in our classroom after a certain golden haired girl broke into our cottage role play and tipped over all our porridge!  We found out our culprit was Goldilocks who we helped the police interrogate by coming up with some questions for her. We then managed to find some magic beans which we used in our Maths lesson to explore odd and even numbers! As we worked so hard we even got to try a few!  We were lucky to have a visit from the Booster Cushion Theatre who put on a fantastic and funny show of Big Goldilocks Plus More!
