Issue 63

This week has been full of preparation for our Summer Fair tomorrow. The weather is looking fabulous and along with lots of stalls, the children have been busy preparing their talent displays for you to see. Entry is only £1 and the fun starts at 12 pm and ends at 4 pm. The fair will operate a token system and tokens can be purchased with cash or card. It is certainly going to be a brilliant day with all the money raised going towards our new Outdoor Classroom. We are very close to reaching our target and a well-attended Summer Fair could see us build the Outdoor Classroom during the next academic year - which would be fantastic.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to open our new trim trail just yet. It only took a week to build but much longer to get it inspected! This should happen next Tuesday and all being well, the children can all get a first go the following day.

Our new deputy headteacher, Mrs Jewitt, was in school on Wednesday this week to meet everyone before she starts officially in September. She spent the day meeting with Mrs Wilson to ensure the handover is as smooth as possible, which I know it will be. Mrs Jewitt is very much looking forward to meeting you all, just as much as I know Mrs Wilson will miss us all.

We've had some fabulous trips this week. Year 6 had a great day learning about life in Tudor times at Hampton Court Palace and Year 2 have had a superb time on their first overnight residential trip to Frylands. A huge thank you once again to all the staff involved in organising these great experiences for our children and especially the staff who went to Frylands and stayed overnight with the children. Mr Duffin had a long day on Thursday, taking the Lacrosse team up to Stoke for the National Lacrosse Finals. The third year in a row we have qualified. The standard this year has improved even further and the team competed against some truly brilliant teams. Well done to them all and for surviving the challenging journey home after the trains were cancelled!

I received more great news this week as one of our attendance winners visited Chessington World of Adventures with their BuyAGift voucher. With only a few weeks remaining in this term before the next draw, remember that every school day counts and those with 97% attendance or higher for the summer term will go into the next draw!

Have a great weekend and Buddy and I hope to see you all at some point tomorrow afternoon at the Summer Fair!

Focus Week - The Meadow

We have been enjoying the sunshine here in the Meadow and so are the plants! Our flower beds and boxes have been flourishing as they enjoy the sunlight and careful monitoring and watering by the children in Year 5. The children have enjoyed watching as these plants started as seedlings, not knowing what to expect from each one, they have all turned into beautiful flowers giving us new surprises every day! Watching these plants bloom after the children planted them boosts their self esteem and sense of accomplishment as well as allowing the children to explore textures and smells.

We additionally have a number of herbs, such as mint, basil and coriander, which the children enjoy smelling and have even used to add flavour and variety at snack time!

This week we would like to highlight the wonderful activities being enjoyed daily at lunch time in the Meadow. During the lunch hour, children across the school are able to come and join in with the games, art activities and make new friends. By doing so, children enhance their social skills by connecting with peers who share similar interests and potentially finding new hobbies or interests.

We welcome children who have unfortunately broken a bone or two, ensuring they have a safe space to eat and or spend playtime with their friends, as well as those who may be anxious and struggle with the playground setting. The Meadow provides a quiet, relaxed space for all the children to enjoy their free time.

Miss Golding leads our lunchtime Meadow sessions and is greeted daily with smiling faces, eager to find out what new games, puzzles or art activities are available. The children have been thriving and enjoying all the exciting games available to them. At the moment, UNO is the favourite card game of choice, which will often see large groups of children mixed across the year groups playing with adults too! This really is wonderful to witness, as building relationships with children and adults across the school is a positive way to improve well-being and contribute to better academic outcomes.
