Issue 63

We have certainly had the warm weather this week for our Sports Days. I am sure you will all agree that what fabulous days they were, with an excellent mix of individual and team events where every child could participate, whatever their sporting ability. These events take a lot of thought and preparation and a huge thank you to our PE staff team for all their hard work organising and running the days. We are truly lucky to have such a wonderful PE team for the fantastic opportunities they provide for our children. PE and Sport is a major strength in our school.

In other exciting news, the new Trim Trail was installed this week. Our old Trim Trail failed its inspection at the beginning of the year and was no longer repairable. The children worked with Mrs Arnold to help decide on the activities they wanted for the Trim Trail. With some great research and negotiating from Mrs Arnold, we now not only have a new Trim Trail but it is also much improved over the previous one. This will be something all the children can enjoy in the years to come. Unfortunately, the Trim Trail cannot be used unsupervised by the employees of the school, so like the gym equipment, it cannot be used at the end of the school day at pick-up.

The children have begun their end-of-year assessments, which look at what children can remember from the teaching of the curriculum across the year and from their previous years. These assessments will be used by the new teachers next year in deciding interventions for stretch and challenge, as well as SEN support. All the results will be shared on the children's end-of-year reports, which will be emailed to parents on July 18th.

Next week we have our secondary transfer meeting for all year 5 parents in the main hall at 2:30 pm. Bromley admissions are coming in to talk about the process of applying for secondary schools and we hope this meeting will clarify the understanding of the process. Our Year 2 children are off to Frylands and we all wish them a fabulous time. Thank you in advance to the staff for taking the children on their first overnight school trip.

It looks like the warm weather is here to stay for a while. I hope you all enjoy the weather this weekend.

Focus Week - Provision

As we approach the end of the academic year, The Orchard have continued to keep themselves very busy by doing lots of learning and having fun! This term, the children have been working very hard in their PE sessions and preparing for Sports Day. This week, all the children in The Orchard had the opportunity to take part in Sports Day. We were so proud of all the children as they all gave it a good go, especially as the weather was so warm! Something new this term in The Orchard, was our fundraiser restaurant. Throughout the year, all the children have been taking part in our life skills curriculum which helps them to build basic skills needed for the future. An example of this is chopping fruits and vegetables, folding clothes and getting dressed etc… These skills are very important for our children in The Orchard; so to celebrate some of their new found skills, we created The Orchard restaurant for the parents. This allowed the children to prep, cook, serve and clean for their parents showing off all the skills they have learnt throughout the year. We look forward to doing this over the coming weeks to help raise funds for The Orchard.
