Issue 61

Welcome back to the final half term of the year, one which is packed full of exciting events and learning opportunities.

Firstly, a huge congratulations to the Lacrosse team for qualifying for the National Finals. This is the third year in a row that we have qualified and this is down to the great teaching from Liam and Mr Duffin, not only for the team but also for the younger year groups as they progress through the school.

I have enjoyed seeing some wonderful art learning this week, year 3 have started creating mind 3D sculptures using 2D shapes, year 4 creating rainforest mood boards and year 1 mixed art with their English learning around their new book. I was also very impressed with one of our Meadow Nurture groups and the weaving project they completed. They created their own dyes using natural materials to stain the fabric. These are hung on the hall windows - do have a look when you are in the courtyard, as they are fantastic. Most importantly though, was the improvement in the children's confidence and teamwork across the weeks. Well done to all those involved.

We have some long-term absences within the site team at the moment, so the school street barrier will be supervised by different people. Please ensure you have your badge or pass with you, as we should only let drivers with passes along the street. When it is a regular person, we know which vehicles are allowed, but for the next few weeks this will be tricky to do. Please contact admin@poverest.co.uk if you have lost your pass. If you do have a pass, please still try to arrive before 8:30 or after 8:45, although you have access to the road, we do want to keep it as free from all vehicles as possible so that it is safe for those pedestrians using the school street.

Next week we have the class photos on Tuesday, please come to school in full school uniform, including your jumper or cardigan. We do have spares for those without. For those classes who have PE, please bring in your change of clothes for PE or check the class Dojo for any alternative arrangements.

Also next week, Year 1 will have their phonics screening check. This is where the children are tested on the sounds they can pronounce correctly and is a time for the children to show off all they have learnt with the early stages of reading across their reception and year 1 years. Best of luck to everyone in year 1.

Focus Week - Year 5

🌟 Year 5 – The Term So Far 🌟

It’s been a fun-filled and action-packed term for Year 5 so far, with plenty of opportunities to learn, create, and explore!

In Maths, we’ve been building our knowledge of fractions. The children have worked hard on comparing, ordering, and calculating with fractions, showing great perseverance and making fantastic progress.

In English, we’ve been journeying through the epic tale of Odysseus, focusing on The Sack of Winds. This dramatic chapter inspired the children to write some incredible poetry, using vivid vocabulary and powerful imagery to bring the story to life.

A real highlight this term was our visit to Kemnal Technology College. The children had a brilliant time taking part in a biscuit-baking session, where they measured, mixed, and decorated their own delicious treats. They also enjoyed an energetic PE session led by secondary school staff, giving them a taste of life at a secondary school and the exciting opportunities it offers.

We’ve also been making the most of the outdoors during our Forest School sessions. Year 5 have loved learning how to light fires safely and boil water using a Kelly kettle, developing teamwork, independence, and practical skills in the process.

It’s been a fantastic term so far – full of creativity, curiosity, and adventure. Well done, Year 5!
