Many children have been on external visits this week as part of their active and engaging curriculum they receive at Poverest. Our reception classes had a wonderful time at the farm, whilst Year 3 explored real-life art at the Tate Modern in London. Both year groups were again a credit to the school with their good behaviour, and I am sure they all enjoyed their experiences.
On Thursday, we celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day. During our assemblies, we explored the theme of peace and how important and nice peace is and how we must all learn to get on with other people - whatever our differences are.
It is lovely to see so many children in a school club. Almost 70% of our children are now in at least one club this term. There are spaces in our Sportacus Clubs, so use this link if you would like your child to have a go. https://www.sportacus.co.uk/book Our Sports Days are on the school calendar and Class Dojo Events. We hope for good weather on these days. Parents are very welcome to come and share the experience with their children. Children take part in a mix of competitive and non-competitive events.
I'm pleased to share that Poverest Primary School was ranked 36 out of more than 500 large Primary Schools in England who took part in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel challenge. Our daily average was 86.68%. We didn't quite finish high enough for a prize but for so many children not using a vehicle to get to school is fantastic for their own health and, of course, our impact on the environment in our local area. A big thank you to Mrs Thakur and the Junior Travel Ambassadors for organising all the data and promoting the challenge.
Finally, a huge best of luck message to all of our Year 6 children who will be sitting their standard attainment tests (SATS) next week. They, and all their teachers, have worked incredibly hard on their revision these past few weeks. Assessments are part of education, the children should just do their best and try to show off everything they know. All children have talents and interests that they excel in but most of these will never be assessed. So, Good Luck Year 6, do your best, everyone at Poverest is very proud of every one of you.
