Welcome back to Poverest for the Summer Term, it has been lovely seeing the children after their Easter Break and listening to what they have been doing over the holiday period. The most exciting event this week though has to be the hatching of our Duck eggs, which are being looked after by Willow and Walnut classes. On Thursday, the first of the duck eggs hatched and it has been amazing for everyone to see the start of a new life. We have a live webcam set up so every class can check in and see what the Ducks are up to! The Ducks will move into a larger home when they are ready and the children can all see how quickly they grow and develop in the coming days.
The senior leadership team met with the Bromley Attendance Team this week to work with us to ensure all children are in school for an absolute minimum of 90% of the time. Where attendance is below this figure, we want to work with you to ensure better attendance in the future. I've said it before but children with less than 95% attendance are much more likely to struggle with their learning and feel less confident compared to their classmates.
We have had reports of more selfish and dangerous driving on the local roads, mainly at drop-off times. If you do drive to drop off your children, please take extra care to ensure everyone can get to school safely.
Cedar class enjoyed their visit to Buckingham Palace on Friday. It has been a wonderful new trip added to our curriculum which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. They have also been impeccably behaved and a real credit to our school.
This term, we will be celebrating the attainment and progress of our children in their basic mathematical skills demonstrated on TT Rockstars and Numbots. Certificates will be given out and children celebrated in our Tree of Success Celebration Assemblies on Fridays. We have also launched our new Poverest Attendance Race competition. During the Summer Term, we will be comparing attendance in Year Groups - as well as The Orchard. They will get two points for a win and the winning group will be the one to cross the finish line first and win a school trip completely paid for by the school. Thank you to Mrs Wilson and Mrs Banks for the fabulous display!
Best of luck to our Mini Marathon runners on Saturday and to those parents running the London Marathon on Sunday - just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will get round! A huge thank you once again to Mr Duffin for organising the mini-marathon experience for the children of Poverest.
