Issue 54

The highlight this week was the children performing at the Bromley Proms at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon on Tuesday. A talented selection of year 3 and 4 children have been working hard on their performance and earned the loudest cheer of the evening. Their performance was a mix of the pBuzz (like a trumpet) and Ukulele which the children have been learning in their music lessons. A huge thank you to both Mrs Inwood and Mrs Mills for supporting the children to showcase their musical talent. There is a lot of effort needed to arrange these events and we are always grateful to our staff for going above and beyond to offer so many opportunities for our children. Keeping with the musical celebration the RockSteady bands performed their end of term pieces to the parents this week and a selection of staff were also directed into an impromptu performance - much to the children's delights!

Another huge thank you to the Friends of Poverest, Mrs Williams and Mrs Gunn who have organised the Mothers' Day gifts that have been created by the children this week. We wish all of the mums out there a wonderful day on Sunday and we hope you will treasure your personalised gifts made by your children.

Edgebury and Poverest Governing bodies and senior leadership teams met this week as part of Afact. This is where the governing bodies find out about how the two schools work together in a supportive way to improve the experiences and outcomes of children in both schools. I certainly felt very proud of our cooperative collaboration and all the great things we have done together this term, which has mainly focused around improving writing outcomes by looking at how we deliver lessons and provide feedback to children so that they make progress in this subject area.

Finally year 6 enjoyed their WW2 Rainbow Theatre workshop on Friday afternoon. Practical learning experiences always inspire the children and these are often the best way to secure long term memory of key knowledge.

Next week is the final week of the Spring Term. Cedar Class are off to soft play as a reward for winning the Autumn Attendance competition. Today we announced the Spring winner and a huge well done to Holly Class who are this term's winners. They will now decide a class trip of their choice for next term which will be free for all the children in Holly class. We also have our parents' evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday where we will discuss your child's progress and how we can all work together on their next steps. We have an Easter assembly and the Easter Raffle next Thursday with money raised going towards the new Outdoor Classroom. The Easter bonnet parade will happen as close to 9am as possible on the main playground on Friday and parents are welcome to join us (for those new to the school this works in the same way as the World Book Day Parade). School finishes slightly earlier on Friday with pickups staggered around 1:30 from the usual locations. Please be aware that Tillingbourne Green will be open to traffic at this time so take extra-care when leaving the school site.

Have a wonderful weekend and best wishes to all our families celebrating Eid on Monday.

Focus Week - The Orchard

This half term, the children have continued to show off their amazing attitudes to their learning and have been building on their new skills that they had learnt from last half term. We started the new half term off with a very exciting trip to Pizza express! All the children were able to make their own cheese pizzas whilst learning the importance of hygiene and gaining some basic culinary skills which they could use in the future. I know that the best part of this trip was when the children got to eat the pizzas that they created - look at those smiles in the pictures! For World Book Day, all the children was able to immerse themselves into their favourite character for the day. As part of this, we had been focusing on the story 'Alice in Wonderland' where the children were able to be part of the fan favourite story, become Alice and take themselves on the same adventure to Wonderland. They were able to crawl through the rabbit hole, sip a drink to grow, eat a piece of cake to make them nearly disappear and meet the Queen of Hearts! We also took part in the Alice in Wonderland workshops where the children were able to use drama and dance to retell the story to the whole school. We cannot wait to see what fun and adventures we go on in the Summer term!
