Spring is beginning to feel like it is close to properly arriving, with glimmers of sunshine this first week back. I'd like to start with some fantastic news: Mr and Mrs Smith welcomed their new arrival, baby Rupert, on February 14th. The Smith Family are all doing very well, and I know they plan to pop into school soon to show off their new addition.
On Tuesday, children across the school worked with Bromley Council to help plant the micro forest on Tillingborune Green. Although it was certainly very muddy, the children helped plant 1,000 trees. It is hoped that around 60% will survive, and the children of Poverest will help nurture them from saplings into trees over the coming months and years. A huge thank you to our Forest School Teachers, Mr Duffin and Mrs Callaghan, for organising and supporting the children in this excellent community event. We are encouraging Bromley Council to work with us and our children in the future on improving the Green further to enhance it for everyone.
Harrisons have launched their new school menu this week, some dinners do have some interesting names but I can assure you that all the meals are suitable for the children. The Chicken Madras on Thursday was delicious, but it is not what you'd expect from a Madras in a traditional curry house! A very simple chicken, sauce and rice dish with absolutely no spice at all. Trying new foods is an enjoyable part of life, so please encourage your children to try new things over the next three weeks.
The school governors were in this week to meet with the Safeguarding Team and also talk to the children about the procedures and practices at Poverest. Once again, they were delighted with what they saw, ensuring all children know how to help keep themselves and others safe but most importantly know who they can talk to when reporting anything that worries them - however large or small it may be.
The new PE timetable started this week, and it has been great to welcome Giselle back to support the PE team with the Dance units. On Friday, we also had the KS2 Perform Drama workshops. I am delighted to welcome experts in their field to deliver a high-quality learning sequence to all our children.
Some exciting and sad news is that Mrs Wilson has decided to leave us at the end of this academic year. Mrs Wilson has worked at Poverest for thirteen years and has been instrumental in the transition of our school. It has been a long-term plan of her partner and her to move abroad, and that time has come - very sad for us but incredibly exciting for them. The process to find a replacement has begun, but we will continue to enjoy working with her as our Deputy Head for these next few months.
Finally, we have our Friends of Poverest Race Night this evening. I am sure everyone who attends will have an enjoyable and relaxing evening while supporting the school and our ambition of creating an outdoor classroom next to our Forest School.
