Issue 28

We have enjoyed the warm sunny weather this week and lots of exciting events have occurred.

A big congratulations to Bromley FC for their remarkable playoff final victory last weekend. It was fantastic to see several Poverest families cheering on the team at Wembley. Moments like these bring our community together and it is great for our area to have another Football League club.

Walnut class had an incredible time at Romshed Farm this week. Outdoor learning experiences like these not only enrich our students' knowledge but also foster a deep appreciation for nature and the world around them. Willow will be visiting the farm next week.

Looking ahead, Year 6 students will be taking their SATs next week. I want to commend their unwavering dedication and hard work in preparing for these assessments and thank you at home for supporting your children as well with their learning and helping them to remember more. The entire staff team is incredibly proud of their efforts, and we wish them the very best of luck. Remember, these tests are just one measure of their abilities, at Poverest we celebrate the unique talents and strengths of each and every child - not just academic attainment.

Next Thursday is an important day for our school, as it is the school census day. Your child's attendance on this day plays a crucial role in determining our school's finances, so we kindly request your cooperation in ensuring their attendance at school on this day.

In assembly today we presented the final league table of our Attendance World Cup. It has created great excitement in our Friday Tree of Success Assemblies. We have ended with a draw between Maple and Elm classes so both classes will get a free school trip in the final half term. Well done to those classes but to everyone as a whole because our attendance is getting better and hopefully this will continue to improve further.

Finally, I would like to invite all parents and carers to attend the Friends of Poverest annual general meeting (AGM) next Wednesday. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the invaluable contributions of this dedicated group and to actively shape the plans for the future of our school community.

As always, thank you all for your continued support and involvement in making Poverest Primary School such a great place to learn and I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Focus Week- Year 5

This month, Year 5 have been having an amazing time in music and have been planning, playing and producing their own music - we are so looking forward to hearing the results!  In PE they have made amazing progress in gymnastics and have been honing their skills during break and lunchtime.  It has been amazing to see their increase in confidence and ability!

In English, they have been reading the Adventures of Odysseus and have written some incredible pieces of work to support their learning including: a character description of the evil Cyclops, a setting description for the Land of the Dead and an informal letter from Odysseus to his wife, Penelope.  This story has been a wonderful resource and support for our topic work on Ancient Greece, where the children have learned about democracy, Greek gods and goddesses and philosophy.  Perimeter and area has been the focus in their Maths lessons and the year 5 have excelled in learning how to calculate the area of rectilinear shapes.   In science, the children have had fun completing experiments to prove gravity, water resistance and air resistance, where they dropped items at height to see how shape, weight and air changed the results.

In computing, they have been learning how to programme a Microbit and have been able to complete a class poll, recording and sharing results.  During British Sign Language Week, the children learned to sing and sign the song ‘Blinded by Your Grace’ which they performed during our presentation at their own Spring Concert.  All in all, it has been a fabulous start to the term and we are looking forward to visiting Kemnal for a food tech/PE morning and a trip to look at multimedia art at the Tate Modern later in May.

Plantlife’s #NoMowMay is the annual campaign calling on all garden owners and green space managers not to mow during May.

Leaving patches of grassy areas to grow longer this summer allows native flowers to bloom for bees and butterflies and provides shelter for small mammals.

At Poverest, we are taking part in No Mow May and have left part of our Forest Area to grow!

Uniform

We have PE t-shirts in stock. Children are encouraged to wear their house colour for PE and sports day. You can purchase these from the main office for £6.50.
