Issue 27

Summer appeared to arrive and then disappear this week! Hopefully, we will see some more of the “Summer” weather over the bank holiday weekend.

During our assembly this week, we discussed the inspiring story of Jasmine Paris, the first female to complete the Barkley Marathon. This incredible feat serves as a powerful reminder that with perseverance and a resilient mindset, we can overcome even the most daunting challenges, both in our academic pursuits and in life.

Our Year 4 children enjoyed their visit to the Museum of London Docklands this week to support their learning topics this term. Year 3 had a fantastic Primary Arts Touring programme which they all enjoyed on Wednesday.

Our cricket team participated in matches at Bromley Town Cricket Club and played very well against some very talented cricketers from other schools. We now have cricket, lacrosse and tennis coaching happening weekly across the school from specialists in our local community.

A group of talented Year 5 students attended Bromley High School For Girls for their third day of mathematical challenges this term. Mrs. O'Connor has expressed her pride in their exceptional abilities, which have also impressed the staff at Bromley High. It is lovely to see our children’s academic excellence being recognised and celebrated by others.

Additionally, another group of Year 5 girls have embarked on the Shine Project at Bromley High School. This initiative aims to foster independence and confidence in our children, and we are thrilled to be part of this inspiring programme once again.

As mentioned earlier we do have a Bank Holiday on Monday so we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday. Fingers crossed that we will be celebrating Bromley FC earning a place in the football league for the first time! Enjoy your trip to Wembley if you are attending.

Focus week - Year 4

A great week for a great year group! We had a lovely visit to the London Dockyard Museum where we got to see how the import and export industry to the rest of the world was started in Britain and how it has progressed since then. The children loved all the transport they went on from walking, bus, DLR and a train. The museum had lovely interactive activities for the children to do and learn from and the day ended with a lovely session looking at different objects from the Tudor times and what they were made of or made from. They looked at waterproof hats, chamber pots, quills, candle stick holders and even had the opportunity to smell different spices and foods that came through the Docks back in the day. We were complimented about the lovely behaviour of our Poverest children who were upholding the values of the school and the teachers were very proud.

During our classwork we have had fun in Spanish learning all about the classroom equipment and bossy verbs (sit, stand, look etc) and the children love doing these lessons.

During our History we have been looking at children in the past and how they used to go out from 5 years old to earn money for the family and become apprentices or even get married at 12. They were hard working and some had bad conditions to live in but did it all for their family. Times have surely changed!

In our Writing in English we are looking at the book called 'Winter's Child' and exploring if we could wish for anything, what could the consequences be? They have been working hard with coordinating conjunctions and prepositional phrases while they write, always striving to do better and make their writing a lot more interesting to read.

Art is still a great topic to end the week with and we have been looking at rainforest animals and insects, the bright colours, making mood boards and exploring with our drawing techniques to better our pictures.

Please remember to get your child to work hard on their times tables as we have some country wide tests coming up and we want to show how amazing our Poverest Year 4 children are. Practice, practice, practice and the children striving to be better will definitely get them to their goals.

This afternoon we had a visit from author and poet, Neal Zetter! It was very exciting to listen to him performing his poetry and the children all had a chance to join in, too! He also gave us the opportunity to ask questions and gave us an insight into life as a poet and author. What a brilliant end to the week!
