Thank you again for the continued nice words about our Ofsted visit last week, we are all very proud of our school and community and continually strive for the best for our children. The highlight of this week has been our World Book Day, which involved dressing up if the children wished to, treasure hunts, quizzes, paired reading and book cover designs amongst many other activities. Year 5 had a live storytelling from Michael Morpurgo himself which looked amazing and very inspirational. I think it is wonderful how many authors give up their time for free to inspire children to develop a love for reading. World Book Day can pressure children and parents to dress up as a book character. Please remember that if you don't want to, coming to school in your own clothes on this day is absolutely fine. A huge thank you to the staff for creating a wonderful day and Mrs Rautenbach for her continued hard work and dedication to ensure that all our children develop great reading skills and a love for reading.
A huge thank you to the Friends of Poverest for arranging the Mother's Day Crafts this year. We decided to go for craft making instead of just buying a gift this year and I'm sure we will appreciate our children's efforts to create a gift for their mums or grandmothers this year.
It has also been the second of our assessment weeks of this academic year where we get to know what knowledge and skills the children have remembered. These results will be shared with you on parents' evening at the end of term. Repetition of learning is key to long-term memory and when children at our school have gaps this is the approach we take so they can remember it next time around.
Just a couple of reminders about break-time snacks and PE kits. As a healthy school, we do not allow crisps, chocolate or sweets at break times. The short-term sugar rush is not good for behaviour or concentration in class and does affect a child's learning. Also please ensure on PE and or Forest School days that the children have the correct clothing and footwear. PE days the children should be in trainers as these support the feet and ankles in the twisting and turning activities the children do. Slip-on shoes, uggboots etc are not suitable footwear.
I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend.
