Issue 22

A huge thank you to you all for your support this week around our Ofsted inspection. I can not put into words how grateful we all are for the overwhelmingly positive and supportive comments on the parent survey, alongside the numerous words of support to the whole staff team. The outcome we are unable to share with you until the final report is published. This will be shared with you via email on that day and will be in around 5 to 6 weeks. I am however, delighted with the whole process and the experience was very much a professional, polite and detailed one. I have thanked the staff at our school a lot this week and the inspector ensured I passed on his thanks to them for being welcoming, open and transparent during the process. I am very proud of our staff team for their hard work this week but mostly for their hard work in the weeks, months and years before now as it is those periods of dedication that have been checked this week.

The school has continued to run normally through this week and it was lovely to see the year 6 group all take part in their Bikeability sessions and learn a key life skill in keeping physically healthy and able to ride their bikes safely in a busy community.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance on Monday to see the Tree of Success winners from last week but I will catch up with them and the winners from today on Monday next week.

Moving onto next week we will be starting on our Spring Term assessments to check what the children have remembered over time. We do use the data gathered to put interventions into place when children haven't grasped a particular objective. Next Thursday is our World Book Day. Children are welcome to dress as a book character for the day. This does not mean you need to go out and purchase a particular costume. Many children use a mix of their own clothes and some homemade props to be the character from a particular book. We will have a World Book Day Parade in the main playground as close to 9 am as possible and you are welcome to stay and watch. There will be many other engaging events during the day which we look forward to sharing with you next week.

Thank you all again for being so supportive of our school, have a wonderful weekend.

Mr Haylock

Year 5 - Focus Week

Over the past few weeks, Year 5 have been enjoying their new Science topic and have been dissecting flowers and plants to learn more about reproduction in plants.  Additionally, they have made sundials and explained how they work as part of their Science topic.  During Children’s Mental Health Week, we went out and had fun in the outdoors as well as taking part in some Mindfulness Yoga and creating some ‘I Am Special’ bunting.  As part of this week, some of the children in Year 5 sold cakes in aid of the ‘Young Minds’ charity.

Earlier this month, we took part in a whole school Online Safety Day, where the children created posters to advise the younger children in the school how to stay safe online.  We learnt about the importance of passwords as we tried to guess the password to enter our classrooms.  The children’s guesses were very telling!

In literacy, we have been reading about ‘Curiosity - the Mars Rover’ and have written narratives about a little blue alien who lands on our planet.
We have been journalists writing about Curiosity’s achievements.

We have designed, painted and described our own character from ‘The Lost Thing’ - about which we are now writing a narrative.

In Maths, the children were excited to learn how to multiply fractions and are keen to test their parents’ knowledge - so beware!  We have completed our topic on multiplication and division and some of the children have been keen to learn long division. In PE we have been honing our gymnastics skills and have started lacrosse for our Monday PE session.  We are looking forward to our trip to the Natural History Museum, where we will experience life in the oceans and what we can do to protect it.
