This week has been anti-bullying week and we started it with an odd socks day - something I found very tricky on Monday morning looking at a selection of black socks! Mrs Wilson and Mrs Rautenbach led assemblies on being a good friend to all of our children and linked this to our school values of being polite, respectful and ultimately being united as a team of children at Poverest. Disagreements between children do happen and these disagreements are an important part of growing up. Learning how to solve conflict is an important life skill we will all need in the future. Our restorative approach is based on successful research and it does help to change behaviours. We do have a parent workshop on this on the 28th of November and you can book a place on it by contacting the main school office. It is an excellent workshop and one I have attended previously but gained a lot of help and knowledge in solving conflict between my children when they were younger. Many children often believe that bullying is when someone is unkind to you once or twice, but this isn't the case.
The trips to support our curriculum continued again this week with more cinema trips and the year 3 and Maple class trip to the Science Museum. One highlight for me was being invited to the EYFS wedding in the hall, the best man did a great job at not losing the rings and the floor was completely covered in confetti at the end! The children showed some brilliant writing in their invitations and I was pleased to receive a couple of invites. Buddy, of course, beat me on the invite count - he had over ten invites in the end but wasn't very happy when we left just before the cakes were issued!
We held our second open morning which again was very well attended and I was delighted to receive so many positive comments from our visitors about our wonderful school, staff and children who showed them around.
Best of luck to the Year 5 Girls in the cross country tomorrow at Crystal Palace - it's a super event and one I have really enjoyed as a teacher and parent in the past. Thank you to Mr Duffin for giving up his Saturday morning to lead the team - I'm sure he wishes there was a teacher race!
Finally, we have our Christmas Fair next Friday which will be held in the main school hall and surrounding areas. Please do pop in and enjoy the activities, supporting the Friends of Poverest and raising some much-needed funding to enhance the learning experiences of all our children.
Have a lovely weekend.
