October 2026

It has been a wonderful final week of the half-term here at Poverest School. I would like to begin by extending a huge thank you to all of our teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication throughout this first half-term—it has truly been a fantastic start to the school year and I'm incredibly grateful to them all.

On Monday, we held our Harvest assembly in support of the Bromley Foodbank. I was so impressed by the excellent behaviour and thoughtful awareness shown by the children throughout. A huge thank you to everyone for the generous donations to our Harvest collection, which have now been delivered to the Bromley Foodbank to help support families in our local community.

We were also delighted to send a group of our Year 5 children to the first of six Maths Masterclasses at Bromley High this week. They represented the school brilliantly and had a fantastic time engaging with some challenging new ideas. We are extremely grateful to St Barnabas Church for kindly loaning us their minibus once again to make this trip possible.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Parents' Evening meetings with class teachers this week. Working in partnership with you is so important to us, and I hope you found these sessions valuable in understanding how your child is settling in and how you can best support their learning at home.

As a reminder, school will be closed for the next two weeks for the half-term break. We look forward to welcoming all children back to school on Monday 2nd November at the usual times. We do have sporting and dance clubs using the school grounds for those requiring childcare. Places are available and can be booked via links sent on Dojo.

I wish all our children and families a restful and lovely two-week half-term, and safe travels to any families heading away on holiday. We look forward to seeing you all again for another great half-term ahead!

Focus Week – Year 6

What a fantastic and action-packed start Year 6 have had to their final year at primary school! The children kicked things off with a wave of ambition, writing formal letters to Mr Haylock to apply for their new school leadership roles. All of our incredible candidates for Head Boy and Head Girl then took part in interviews with Mr Haylock, showcasing amazing maturity and leadership potential. Since then, every single pupil has been working incredibly hard across all of their lessons throughout this first half term. It has been wonderful to see how quickly they have adjusted to the higher expectations of the senior year group, demonstrating a mature attitude toward their daily learning.

Alongside their hard work in the classroom, the children have enjoyed some unforgettable experiences that expanded their learning beyond the school gates. They were very lucky to spend a morning taking part in a life-saving workshop with Fab First Aid, where they learnt how to perform CPR and how to confidently look after people who are hurt. Shortly after, the class took an exciting trip to Shrek’s Adventure, where they were completely immersed in a magical fairytale world. This fantastic day out perfectly linked with their current class book, Grimm Tales, sparking some truly exceptional narrative writing back in the classroom as the children experimented with building suspense and designing their own dark fairytale villains.

We are so incredibly proud of everything Year 6 has achieved so far, both academically and in how they support one another as a team. We cannot wait for next half term, where their next big milestone awaits: their exciting residential trip to PGL! This upcoming adventure will give the children a brilliant opportunity to build their independence, conquer the high ropes, and develop lifelong teamwork skills that will serve them well as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.

The Weeks' Cup

Dear All,

Congratulations to Teddy, the Winner of the Week's Cup 2026! It was such a pleasure to see the children perform in the Week's Music Cup 2026. There were so many children playing the piano. There were a few children who couldn't perform this year, so I hope to see them again in 2027. We missed those children who were ill and hope they feel better soon. It was fantastic to see last year's winner, Nina, play the piano for us again.

Thank you to Mrs Inwood for organising the event, supported by Mrs McIllMurray.

The children were all fantastic, from Ronnie, who is only 5, to Taso in Year 6, who's been playing the piano for a year. Keep up the practising and see you next year.
