Issue 42

This week I have been privileged to visit many of the classes in the school to see the children in action.  The atmosphere in classrooms has been calm, purposeful and shows that the children are successfully demonstrating our school values.  The lessons I have seen have all been of  great quality and we are very proud of the teachers and support staff.

On Tuesday, the Year 2 and Year 6 children had an informative practical session with FAB first aid. In the session, the children learned how to help if someone is hurt or unwell. They discovered simple first aid skills, like how to get help, what to do if someone is choking, and how to stay calm in an emergency.  This is a very useful life skill for the children.

On Wednesday, some of our children undertook peer mediator training.  This role is vital in helping children develop their skills in managing conflict and what to do if they have had a falling out with a friend at break or lunch time.  Having peer mediators as role models really helps support the children in resolving conflict in a calm and respectful way.

Also, our Year 1 teachers held an informative meeting for parents.  The focus was on phonics and reading, and how parents can support their children at home to consolidate these important skills.  Thank you to all of those parents who attended, and the slides have already been shared on class dojo.

School photo day on Thursday meant that we saw lots of children very smartly dressed and with very neat and tidy hair!  Please can we try to maintain the same level of uniform we saw in the school everyday - it would be amazing!

Next week is another busy week - Year 6 are visiting Shrek's Adventure on Wednesday.  Year 4 is off to the Natural History Museum on Thursday, and on Friday school will be hosting the Weeks' cup.

Have a lovely weekend!

Focus Week - Year 4

Welcome to the Year 4 Half-Term Update!

What a fantastic, fast-paced start to the school year we have had! The children have settled in brilliantly and truly hit the ground running, adapting effortlessly to their new Year 4 routines. It has been a wonderful half term filled with an excellent balance of hard work, immense fun, and plenty of laughter. We could not be prouder of how well they have transitioned into their new classes.

Here is a glimpse of what we have been up to across the curriculum:

  • Science (Giggles and Guts!): Our science lessons have been full of shrieks and laughter as we explored the human digestive system. The children tracked the journey of food from the moment it enters the mouth all the way until it exits the body. Alongside this, we have been examining the different types of teeth found in our own mouths and comparing them to various animal teeth.
    • Coming Up: We are incredibly excited about our upcoming trip to the Natural History Museum, where we will be having a closer look at how animal teeth have changed and adapted over time!
  • Geography & English (Protecting the Rainforest): In geography, we have dived deep into the rainforest, exploring its unique layers, understanding the environmental damage currently being caused, and discussing meaningful ways we can help save it. This inspiring topic flowed directly into our English lessons. After watching the beautiful, wordless short film 'The Catch', the children produced a spectacular variety of high-quality writing, including emotive diary entries, vivid narratives, thoughtful poetry, and detailed fact files.
  • Maths (Big Numbers & Multiplication): We have thrown ourselves into place value, working with much larger numbers than the children are traditionally used to, and they are doing incredibly well! A huge focus remains on mastering our times tables as we continue preparing for the statutory end-of-year multiplication check. Thank you for your continued support with practice at home!
  • PSHE (A Healthy Me): Our focus on well-being led us to design balanced, healthy lunchboxes. The children loved categorising foods into items that help us 'grow, go, and glow', while taking part in regular physical activities to keep our hearts pumping and bodies active.

All in all, this half term has been absolutely jam-packed with work, fun, laughter, and new challenges. The children are thoroughly loving their Year 4 journey so far, and we cannot wait to see what they achieve the rest of the year.
