It’s been lovely getting to know our new reception children this week and trying to remember their names. They have settled really well into Poverest School life and are following the new routines. I must thank the reception class teams for working so hard to settle our new children into school life.

Assemblies this week focused on our Determination value. We looked at the cycling competition, the Tour of Britain, which occurred last weekend and the determination needed to keep going even when things get tough. In school, learning new things can be challenging and it can be easy to give up. Instilling that resilience in children is so key for later life.

We held our first Fire Alarm practice on Thursday, and this all went very well. Now our new children know what to do in case we need it.

We have had some complaints around parking on our school street. Disability badge holders are allowed to park on the double yellow lines, but we are finding that people without badges are parking there as well, which prevents them from having close access, which they need. Please be considerate of others and, for those who can, park away from school and walk part of the way.

Our 'Meet the Teacher' events have started and I hope you find these useful in understanding the expectations of the year and how you can support your child at home. Regularly discussing learning at home helps children to keep things in their long-term memory and this is key for learning new things in the future.

Next week we will be celebrating Roald Dahl Day, completing coding activities as part of National Coding Week and we also have the Perform Drama Workshop coming into school again to work with EYFS and KS1 on Wednesday.
