We have reached the end of another fantastic school year at Poverest, and this is the final newsletter of the year. When reflecting on the year, I am so proud of everything we have achieved and the provision we provide for every single child. We have the perfect mix of academic, sporting, and creative learning opportunities with the aim that every child can excel and enjoy at least one of these aspects. It is also the perfect time to say a huge thank you to many people for their support of the school and I. The staff team have worked tirelessly all year, and I can never thank them enough for all that they do. A huge thank you to you, the parents and guardians of our children, for supporting and educating your child at home. Some of you are also part of the Friends of Poverest and, as a school, we are incredibly grateful for your volunteering and the huge amount of money you raise for the children. Finally, I would like to thank the governors for their continued challenge and support—we are very lucky to have such a strong governing body with a huge range of skills and knowledge that I can call upon.

The end of the school year is also a time when we sadly have to say goodbye to members of our school community and staff. We will miss you all, but especially Mrs. Judickiene, Miss Barnett, and Mrs. Carney, who are all moving on to new experiences.

This week has been a huge celebration, with lots of celebrations of staff achieving passes in individual training courses, the PE Team gaining the Gold School Sports award for yet another year and the Year 6 SATs results, which have exceeded national averages once again! A huge well done to all the children for their hard work and dedication towards their SATs and every adult who has played a role in their learning journey.

There was yet another huge PE success with the Gymnastic team winning the London Finals for years 3 and 4. It is a huge credit to the hard work the children and staff have put in across the year. Well done Mrs Johnson and Miss Glynn!

Next week, we have a few more celebrations before we break up for the summer holidays on Tuesday at 1:30 pm. Children can be collected from the usual gates, and staff will wait if you have children at different exits. On Monday, we have our final Celebration of Learning at 2 pm, which is a chance to see your children’s learning.

The next academic year starts on Tuesday, 1st September. 8:30 for reception, 8:35 for Year 1 and Year 2, 8:40 for Years 3-6, although the gate will be open at 8:30. The Orchard starts at 8:45. I hope you all have a fantastic summer.

Focus Week – Year 1

We have been having a great time in year 1 and cannot believe it is nearly over!

Last week we went on our final trip of the year, to the cinema to see Toy Story 5. We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed the cinema snacks too! The children all demonstrated impeccable behaviour and represented the school beautifully. 

We were very proud of all the children who took part in the Freddie Farmer Daily Mile event. They demonstrated great perseverance and determination. As a school, we managed to raise £300, thank you so much for your support of this event. 

Our PSHE topic this half term has been all about economic well being and the children have been learning the importance of saving money. We visited the Metro Bank to support this and enjoyed tasty Nando's afterwards, which the children had earned money for by doing chores at home.  

In computing we have been learning about internet safety and what to do if something we are unsure about pops up. We learnt about our digital footprint and how anything we put online will be there forever. 

As we near the end of our year together, we are preparing the children for year 2 with lots of transition activities and discussions. We have had such a fantastic year this year and wish the children every success in year 2.
