June 2026

Well done to everyone for doing their best with the heat this week. Although it didn't turn out to be that hot on Tuesday, the temperature rose above 30 around 2 pm in some parts of the school, so it helped that we could move those affected into cooler areas in the afternoons. It has been the hottest June on record and thankfully, extreme weather warnings are still very rare in England.
Unfortunately, the hot weather also meant we had to postpone our Daily Mile fundraising event until next week and we were also not able to travel to Stoke for the National Lacrosse Final. We also cancelled our assemblies rather than having the children congregate together in the hall.

The children have been working hard, completing their assessments this week in the cooler part of the day. The results will come home with their end-of-year reports on the 17th July.

The PE kits can have a reprieve next week as the drop in temperature means we can be back in school uniform and the days can all run as normal.

Thank you in advance to all the volunteers for our Summer Fair tomorrow. The weather is still looking very warm. An event on this scale isn't something that can be rearranged, so we will be going ahead. However, please be mindful if you are popping along, with sun protection etc. It will be lovely to hopefully still see you all, even if you do just brave the sun for a short while.

Enjoy the weekend and hope to see you at the Summer Fair on Saturday.
Many thanks,

Mr Haylock (Head Teacher)

Focus Week - The Orchard

In Music this term, Mulberry class has been combining all the musical concepts that they have learnt throughout the year for an underwater performance incorporating instrumental, vocal, and body sounds. The children started by moving their bodies to the tempo of the music and then progressed to reading musical symbols.

Mulberry class has been mastering a new skill this term – sewing. The children have really impressed the adults with how quickly they have picked up the skill and how passionate they have been about the project. We look forward to seeing the final piece.

In Blossom, this week, we have been reading Little Red Riding Hood, and the children have shown lovely enthusiasm as they explored the story together. They have been looking for the wolf and recreating the different scenes, which has supported their understanding of the characters, sequence, and key events. It has been wonderful to see them join in with familiar language, using their imaginations and building confidence as they retold parts of the story in their own way.

The children especially enjoyed dressing the wolf as Grandma, which brought plenty of laughter and helped them to engage with the story in a playful and thoughtful way. These activities also give children the chance to work alongside one another, share ideas, and listen to different perspectives, which can sometimes feel challenging but is an important part of learning through play.

At playtime, we also had fun with our dinosaur water sprinkler, helping to keep the children cool down during the warmer weather. Water play in the garden has provided a calm and enjoyable space for children to move, explore, and stay refreshed outdoors.

It’s been an incredibly hot week this week and Damson class has been amazing all throughout! We have been busy completing our end-of-year tests, which everyone has tried their absolute hardest with, and I am so proud of all of them, not just this week, but for nearly completing another fantastic year at school. To keep ourselves cool this week, we have had the hose out and have been having lots of fun getting wet. We have been working really hard this week on how to take care of ourselves in different weather and what to do in such extreme weather like this week.
