June 2026

It has been another busy and exciting week at Poverest Primary School!

First and foremost, we held our annual Sports Days on Monday and Tuesday, and I want to extend a huge congratulations to all of the children for their fantastic participation, team spirit, and determination across all the events. It was wonderful to see so many families cheering them on, and I am sure the parents thoroughly enjoyed watching the races as well as participating in the parent events themselves! Of course, an event of this scale wouldn't be possible without the brilliant efforts of our PE team. We are incredibly grateful for all their hard work in organising such a successful and smoothly run event again this year.

Beyond the sports field, our school was transformed into a beautiful sea of colours and traditions for our Multicultural Day on Thursday. The children arrived dressed in stunning cultural attire, representing their heritages and diverse backgrounds from all around the world. Throughout the day, pupils took part in brilliant cross-cultural activities within their classrooms, discovering different traditions and music. They also had the chance to sample a wide array of international flavours during a food tasting session, which was capped off by a phenomenal, as well as having a specially themed multicultural lunch.

Alongside these events, we've had some fantastic creative work taking place as our official entry has been sent off to the Bromley Floral Festival. This year, the theme for the planters is 'Growing Together'—a message that perfectly aligns with our collective ethos. The children designed and created our planter themselves, working hands-on to bring their ideas to life. Of course, this wouldn't have been possible without the brilliant support from Mrs Callaghan, who guided the children through the process. The finished planter looks absolutely incredible and is a true testament to their teamwork and hard work. If you are visiting the festival, do look out for the Poverest entry!

In addition to all of these main events, we have had plenty of other exciting activities happening across the school this week:

  • Out and About: Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic local trip out, visiting both Metro Bank and Nando's to support their learning beyond the classroom.

  • Future Scientists: Our Year 6 pupils took part in an engaging, hands-on STEM workshop, showing great problem-solving skills and curiosity.

  • Looking to September: Our Reception children had a brilliant time during their very first transition afternoon, spending time exploring the Year 1 classrooms and outdoor area as they begin getting ready for the big move in September.

Looking ahead, we hope to see everyone next weekend on Saturday 27th at our Poverest Summer Fair, which starts at 12 o'clock. The Friends of Poverest are hoping to make it the best one yet!

I wish you all a wonderful and restful weekend.

Mrs Arnold (Assistant Headteacher)

Focus Week – Year 6

What an incredible term Year 6 is having! It's hard to believe we're already in the final stretch of their primary school journey, and what a journey it has been.

First and foremost, we want to acknowledge the tremendous effort Year 6 put into their SATs at the end of last term. The children worked incredibly hard, showed great resilience, and approached the tests with maturity and determination. We are so proud of how they handled the pressure and gave it their very best. Now they can truly enjoy this well-deserved final term!

Rehearsals are well underway for our end-of-year performance, Dare to Dream, a magical celebration of all things Disney! The children are showing wonderful enthusiasm and dedication as they learn their lines and perfect their songs on stage. The energy in rehearsals has been fantastic, and we can already see how special this production is going to be. We can't wait to share this magical performance with you and the whole school – it promises to be a truly memorable show!

This term, Year 6 has begun its second session of Forest School, and it's been wonderful to see them embrace outdoor learning once again. From building shelters to exploring nature and developing problem-solving skills in the great outdoors, the children have thrown themselves into every activity with enthusiasm. Forest School provides such valuable opportunities for teamwork, creativity, and connecting with the natural world – skills that will serve them well as they move forward.

The transition process is now in full swing, with visits to secondary schools underway. This is an exciting but emotional time for Year 6. While there are understandably some nerves about leaving the familiar surroundings of primary school at the end of term, the children are also buzzing with excitement about starting this new chapter in their educational journey. They've been asking thoughtful questions, supporting one another, and showing real maturity as they prepare for this big step. We're so proud of how ready they are for the challenges and opportunities that await them.

There's still so much to look forward to, and we want to make these final weeks truly special:

  • Chessington World of Adventures – Our celebration trip is fast approaching! This is a well-deserved reward for all their hard work and a chance to create lasting memories with their classmates.

  • Dare to Dream Performances – The children will perform their Disney production to the school and then to you, their families. This will be their final production in primary school, and we know they'll make it one to remember.

  • Leavers Disco – A chance for Year 6 to celebrate together, dance the night away, and enjoy being with their friends in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

  • Final Primary School Assembly – Our last ever assembly together will be an emotional occasion where Year 6 will have the opportunity to say their farewells to the school, reflect on their time here, and share their hopes for the future.

We would like to thank you for your continued support throughout their time in Year 6 and indeed throughout their entire primary school journey. It's been a privilege to teach your children, and we're committed to making these last few weeks truly unforgettable.
