June 2026

Welcome back to the final half-term of the academic year. It feels like only yesterday we were starting in September, and now we are already preparing for a flurry of end-of-year activities. We have so many wonderful things planned that everyone can look forward to, including our much-anticipated sports days, the Year 2 moving up assembly, and, of course, the spectacular Year 6 production—a highlight that always showcases the amazing talent and hard work of our eldest children.

Congratulations to Beech Class. They thoroughly enjoyed their well-deserved class attendance award, which they earned by winning the class attendance competition last term. Their chosen reward was a fantastic trip to Bowling in Bromley, and by all accounts, they had a wonderful time celebrating their dedication to being in school. We are delighted to announce that our overall school attendance figure is now above the National average. This is a great achievement, and we want to sincerely thank all parents and guardians for your ongoing commitment to ensuring your child maintains the expected attendance at school.

This week, our pupils in Reception and KS1 had a wonderful, imaginative morning on Wednesday. They took part in a vibrant drama workshop in the school hall, where they had the joy of pretending to be pirates. Looking ahead, our KS2 students are in for a treat with an inspirational author visit scheduled for next Wednesday. These enriching activities tie directly into our English development, aiming to spark a lifelong love of reading and storytelling.

As always, the safety of our community remains paramount. Please remember that Tillingbourne Green is/ strictly a one-way road, and for safety and legal reasons, even reversing up the road is prohibited and illegal.

We also send our very best wishes and good luck to our Year 1 and Year 4 pupils. Next week is an important time for them as Year 1 completes their phonics assessment and Year 4 undertakes the Multiplication Check. They have all worked incredibly hard, and we are confident they will approach these challenges with resilience and determination.

Finally, as mentioned, we have many exciting events to look forward to. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will be kind to us for our much-anticipated Sports Days, scheduled soon. Please make a note of the dates and times below:

  • EYFS and Year 1: Monday, 15th, in the morning.

  • Years 2 and 3: Monday, 15th, in the afternoon.

  • Years 4, 5 and 6: Tuesday, 16th, in the morning.

We look forward to seeing many of you there to cheer on our children. Have a wonderful and restful weekend.

Focus Week - Year 4

Year 4 Highlights: Sleepovers, Screen-Free Fun, and Superb Success!

What an incredible few weeks it has been in Year 4! We have packed our days—and even one night—with unforgettable learning and memory-making.

Here is a look at what we have been up to and what is coming up next.

Midnight Memories: Our Year 4 Sleepover

We had a highly successful school sleepover recently, and lots of fun was had by all who attended! The behaviour of the children was phenomenal from start to finish. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to bond with their friends and experience the school after dark.

The excitement was palpable as we enjoyed:

  • High-energy games outside on the field.
  • A delicious dinner of pizza and popcorn.
  • Winding down with movies before bed.
  • A lovely community breakfast together in the morning.

Conquering the Multiplication Tables Check

We have been incredibly busy preparing for the official statutory times tables test that all Year 4 children across the country take. Instead of the old-school rote learning methods of the past, the children have enjoyed exploring numbers in dynamic, modern ways.

To build our confidence, we have been:

  • Battling it out on TT Rockstars.
  • Using number lines to visualize skip-counting.
  • Singing along to Numberblocks online multiplication songs.
  • Testing our speed with quick-fire daily quizzes.

The big test week is next week! We wish all of our brilliant pupils the absolute best of luck—you’ve got this!

Creative Hands: Batik Art & Small Worlds

Last term, our art topic focused on intricate patterns on materials. The children created mood boards and designed complex repeating patterns. They then applied these ideas using the traditional technique of batik to dye and decorate their very own pieces of fabric.

This week, the creativity shifted to English. In groups, the children have been building their own physical 'small worlds'. They are now using these custom environments to inspire imaginative story writing, and we are absolutely loving hearing them share their ideas.

Looking Ahead: Field Days and Sports Day

We cannot believe there are only a few weeks left of the school year. The Year 4 teachers have an immense amount of fun planned for the final stretch, but our immediate focus is staying focused for test week.

As the weather improves, we are looking forward to spending more time playing outdoors and utilizing the school field. Our current PE lessons are fully focused on practicing for Sports Day. We hope our wonderful parents can come along to support us—and perhaps start training now for the legendary parents' race!
