Issue 42

It has been a very short half-term but with lots happening in school. Our Easter Celebrations have been a lot of fun this week. It was lovely to see the Easter Bonnet creations this morning during the parade. Yesterday, Neil and Aji led our Easter Assembly with our Year 5 children reading the story to the school. Afterwards, we held our Children's Easter Egg Raffle, which was incredibly exciting for the children. It was the first time my loud noise notification has gone off on my watch at school! Congratulations to our Easter Egg Hamper Winners, but mostly a massive thank you to everyone who bought a ticket to help raise more funds for the Friends of Poverest. Thank you to them all for the time spent organising our Easter Events, including the Easter Egg Hunt around the school today. It is a lovely event with the older children guiding and supporting the younger ones.

This week I had the pleasure of watching the dance performances of Y3 and The Orchard. A huge thank you to Giselle for teaching the children so much in their lessons. All the children performed brilliantly with big smiles on their faces.

This week, we took part in the Worldwide Mathletics competition for World Maths Day. Mathletics came in to lead our assembly on Wednesday morning, and one of our Y3 boys scored the 6th highest in the UK and 39th in the World! Birch Class did particularly well overall as well. Mrs Hopper led a Maths learning walk this week and was delighted with what she saw, which, along with the children's test scores, demonstrates Poverest's strengths in maths at the moment!

Y6 enjoyed their experience to Chislehurst Caves on Thursday, they looked great all dressed up to be evacuated. The children explored the caves and discovered how they were used as shelters during WWII.

We hope you like the Class Photo that came home this week from the new company we are using. The class photos looked great and will become a treasured memory in the future.

Congratulations to the Girls' Football team, who won their match this week 6-0! Well done girls!

The school hosted an information evening for the proposed development of the Adult Education Centre. The council answered most of the queries and explained why the development is needed locally and how the provision for Adult Education will be provided in the future. The planning permission is on the bromley planning portal, so if you have any personal concerns or comments of support, you can add them there before the planners make their decision.

Have a wonderful easter break

Focus Week - Year 6

Year 6 had an exciting adventure visiting Chislehurst Caves this month! The trip took everyone deep underground to explore the dark, winding tunnels that were once used as shelters during World War II. The guide shared fascinating stories about how people lived in the caves, and the flickering lanterns made the experience feel truly magical. It was a great opportunity to learn about local history and imagine what life was like in the past.

World Book Day was a huge success in Year 6! The classrooms were filled with colour and creativity as pupils arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. Everyone took part in an exciting workshop, all about Pinocchio, exploring the story’s themes and characters through dance. As a treat, the children enjoyed watching the live-action film version of Pinocchio. It was a wonderful celebration of reading, imagination, and storytelling.

In class, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard in maths as they prepare for their SATs in May. Pupils have been practising arithmetic, problem-solving, and reasoning skills, focusing on accuracy and confidence. Everyone is showing great determination and teamwork, supporting one another to reach their goals. Keep up the fantastic effort—every bit of practice counts!

In English, Year 6 have been researching and writing non-chronological reports about endangered animals of the Amazon rainforest. From jaguars and poison dart frogs to three-toed sloths and pink-nosed dolphins, pupils have been discovering how deforestation and climate change affect these incredible creatures. The reports include fascinating facts, detailed descriptions, and thoughtful ideas about how to protect the rainforest and its wildlife.

As the SATs approach, Year 6 will continue to focus on revision and building confidence across all subjects. There’s also plenty to look forward to later in the term, including creative projects, sports events, and end-of-year celebrations.

Well done to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm this term!
