Focus Week - Year 6
Year 6 had an exciting adventure visiting Chislehurst Caves this month! The trip took everyone deep underground to explore the dark, winding tunnels that were once used as shelters during World War II. The guide shared fascinating stories about how people lived in the caves, and the flickering lanterns made the experience feel truly magical. It was a great opportunity to learn about local history and imagine what life was like in the past.
World Book Day was a huge success in Year 6! The classrooms were filled with colour and creativity as pupils arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. Everyone took part in an exciting workshop, all about Pinocchio, exploring the story’s themes and characters through dance. As a treat, the children enjoyed watching the live-action film version of Pinocchio. It was a wonderful celebration of reading, imagination, and storytelling.
In class, Year 6 have been working incredibly hard in maths as they prepare for their SATs in May. Pupils have been practising arithmetic, problem-solving, and reasoning skills, focusing on accuracy and confidence. Everyone is showing great determination and teamwork, supporting one another to reach their goals. Keep up the fantastic effort—every bit of practice counts!
In English, Year 6 have been researching and writing non-chronological reports about endangered animals of the Amazon rainforest. From jaguars and poison dart frogs to three-toed sloths and pink-nosed dolphins, pupils have been discovering how deforestation and climate change affect these incredible creatures. The reports include fascinating facts, detailed descriptions, and thoughtful ideas about how to protect the rainforest and its wildlife.
As the SATs approach, Year 6 will continue to focus on revision and building confidence across all subjects. There’s also plenty to look forward to later in the term, including creative projects, sports events, and end-of-year celebrations.
Well done to everyone for their hard work and enthusiasm this term!
