We had a wonderful World Book Day on Thursday. It is always lovely to have special days in school and especially nice to see the children in all their costumes around the theme of "A Word". We held lots of fun reading events across the day and if we've managed to inspire just one more child to read regularly, then it has all been worth it. The Pinocchio Dance Workshops were excellent and I have enjoyed reading the children's own versions of Pinocchio, which many have written in their English lessons this week.
We have had lots of sporting success this week as well, both the boys and girls football teams played school matches away from home and performed very well. Well done to them all and Mr Duffin and Mr McManus for leading the sides. Miss Johnson had a full-on busy day at Bromley Valley for the Bromley School Games. In the afternoon, we had two teams who can 5th and 10th and were the only school to enter a solely boys team. In the Morning our Year 3 and 4 gymnasts came in first place out of 13 schools, which is an incredible achievement! Well done to everyone involved.
On Friday afternoon, a team of children took part in the Brains of Bromley competition. This is where one child from each year group in KS2 participates in a quiz competition against other local schools. At the time of writing this we do not know how well they did but I am sure they did an excellent job of representing our school.
I met with the Parent Forum this week to discuss various things about our school. The main discussion was around the school's filtering and monitoring software and how it works in school. Details of the Parent Forum agenda and minutes are on our school website and the link to the LGFL site explaining how the Filtering and Monitoring works is here: https://lgfl.net/safeguarding
The news of the trouble in the Middle East this week brings concerns to us all, I am sure. At the moment, the staff have reported, however, that the children have not been concerned and haven't questioned the events, so for now I have not addressed it in assembly. We do have an assembly prepared to explain the situation, which was sent to headteachers this week, but I am holding off for now, as sometimes highlighting these events can cause more concern and worry, which was not there before. I will, of course, speak to the children about it should concerns become apparent and I will let you know when I do.
The busy weeks at school continue next week with our Science Week. With a short term of 5 weeks, we are certainly squeezing everything in! I wish you all a happy and peaceful weekend.
