It's quite hard to believe we have reached the end of another half-term but time moves fast when there are lots of positive events going on in school. Our main focus this week has been on Children's Mental Health and the National Theme of 'This is My Place'. We had a wonderful celebration of the week in our Tree of Success assembly on Friday and I enjoyed finding out about all the great activities and discussions around taking control of our own mental health. Some children shared their photos of themselves in their special places, which was lovely to see - many were in places of sunshine! The children have taken part in Zentangle (Mindfulness Drawing) and Yoga activities across the week. I took my photo of my happy place at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, however, 90 minutes later, it was not my happy place!
On Friday, Mrs Hopper shared the huge success from the NSPCC Number Day, which happened the Friday before. All the winners were celebrated in assembly with certificates for children in every class. Well done all.
A polite reminder about dogs on site: Buddy is the only Dog allowed on site. We have a strict insurance policy and part of that is not allowing other dogs on site because they leave a scent behind; this can make dogs unpredictable in their behaviour. This hasn't affected Buddy at all but we must ensure we follow the rules imposed upon us. You are most welcome to wait at the gate with your dog and Buddy will happily say hello. Your child can always be brought to the gate for you. Smaller dogs can be held in your arms on the playground. We must all be aware that not all dogs have been trained to the same level as Buddy and we do have children and staff in school with allergies to Dogs. Some children and other parents do have a fear of dogs as well. This is easily managed within our school but these are further reasons why your dogs, as nice and lovely as they are, are not allowed on the school site. Thank you in advance for following our rules.
A huge thank you to the Friends of Poverest and all the teaching team for the school discos this week. The children had a wonderful time, and we raised additional funds to help complete our outdoor classroom.
I hope you all found the Celebration of Learning useful this afternoon and were able to celebrate the progress your children have made since you last saw their learning. Learning doesn't just occur in the hours in school and those most successful children are regularly supported in their learning at home as well. Over the half-term, please do continue to help your child by reading with them and maybe spending some time on the other resources they have access to as well.
