It was wonderful to welcome author Neal Zetter this week. Neal gave up his time for free to speak to all our children and inspire them in their own writing. Unfortunately, fewer children enjoy reading and writing, which are both key life skills, so as adults, we must do all we can to inspire a love of reading and writing. Neal certainly did a great job this week, so we thank him very much.
Mrs Mills and some of our Orchard children participated in a Curling competition at Coopers Secondary School this week. They came in second place by just one point! Well done to all those involved and thank you to Mr Mills for stepping in at the last minute to drive the mini-bus, ensuring the team could participate.
On Wednesday, EYFS and KS1 had a drama workshop. The children learnt how to retell the story 'Midnight in the Toyshop' where the owner wanted to replace all the toys with Ipads! The children had a great time playing all the different characters.
We are having some struggles with last-minute bookings for both the Breakfast and the After-School club. We like to keep this option open but with so many last-minute changes, we don't always have the correct amount of food needed. If you can, please book as far in advance as possible and ensure you book the correct times needed for the right days.
Our parent governor elections will be coming up soon and we will need at least one new parent governor. If you think you would be interested and would like to know more about it, please speak to me on the gate or drop me a message.
Next week it is still looking to be wet and cold. Please ensure your child comes to school with their coat.
On Friday, we are hosting our Spring Concert, which starts as close to 1:30, so please arrive for 1:20 and we will get you in as soon as possible after the children's lunch. It will be the same performance in the hall and then again in the canteen. All the children will perform in the hall and then walk over to the canteen. Please stay for the whole performance so the last group performing have a big audience to perform to. Children will all be collected at the end of the day from the usual times and places. We will have limited seating available, so please stand or sit on the floor if you are able to. Equally, if you have your own chair, you are welcome to bring one if you know you will need one.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Many thanks,

Mr Haylock

Focus Week – The Meadow

Last week we celebrated World Penguin Day. The children were very impressed with the way the dad holds the egg on his feet while the mum goes off to get the food. The children made penguins and also followed instructions on how to draw a penguin. They all followed the same instructions but they all came out different and individual, just like all of us.

The Reception children are now coming to sessions and they have settled into the routine and are enjoying our time together.

This week we looked at the book “Only One You” and discussed that there will be no one else in the world exactly like you. We also had some time to play games and it was great to see the children talking and interacting with each other.
