Focus Week - Year 2
Chestnut and Cedar classes have been very busy this week with all their learning. We have been continuing our learning with our book ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. We have been learning to retell the story using actions and by drawing story maps and have written some super sentences using time conjunctions, e.g. first, then, next, finally.
In Maths we have been subtracting two 2-digit numbers. We have been using dienes to represent the tens and ones and have been learning how to exchange a ten stick for ten one cubes when we cross a ten boundary. It has been tricky stuff, but we have been so proud of the children’s determination and how they have been helping each other.
In Design and Technology we have been learning about structures to make a chair for a bear and have been making our designs this week (see photo).
We have got into the festive spirit this week in Year 2 as we have been rehearsing our nativity; ‘Wriggly Nativity’. The children have been fantastic at learning the songs, helping us to choreograph dances and working out stage directions. We cannot wait to put on our shows for you in the last week of term! On Wednesday, some of us enjoyed some festive activities, arranged by our wonderful FoP, which included meeting Father Christmas, decorating biscuits and making reindeer food.
In Geography, we have been learning about hot and cold places and this week we focused on our local weather and climate. We used thermometers and rain gauges to measure the temperature and amount of rainfall and then checked it against the school’s digital weather station.
Today, we were lucky enough to have Matt Barnard in to talk to us all about teeth and dental hygiene! We have been learning about hygiene and our bodies in PSHE, and he brought all this learning to life this morning in an exciting and informative presentation.
