What an incredible time our Year 6 students had during their residential trip to PGL Marchants Hill! From the moment we arrived, excitement was in the air as the children eagerly anticipated the activities lined up for them. Over the course of the trip, they took part in a fantastic range of adventures, including climbing, where they faced their fears head-on, and exhilarating abseiling that truly tested their nerves. The fun didn’t stop there! Everyone got involved in archery tag, showcasing their competitive spirit and aiming for those bullseyes. Evenings were spent gathered around the campfire, sharing stories, singing songs, and roasting marshmallows – a true highlight for many. It was heartwarming to see the children bonding and creating unforgettable memories together. We’re so proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork. A huge thank you to everyone who made this trip possible; we can't wait to see what next year brings!
On Monday we celebrated Odd Socks Day.  The children (and some of the staff!) came in wearing odd socks to celebrate the start of Anti- Bullying Week. During the week, the children were thinking about what bullying is, why we think it happens and what we can do if we or someone we know is being bullied.
The whole school came together on Tuesday, for a Remembrance day assembly.  Mrs Dale led us in this and shared the history and messages around this special day and we joined together at 11am for a 2 minute silence.  The children were very respectful and during the assembly had some thoughtful questions. In the lead up to this some of our children did a great job of selling poppies and other commemorative items,  raising money for the Royal British Legion.  Thank you to the Year 6 children for their help with this.
Year 3 enjoyed a trip to the cinema on Monday to see Garfield and Year 5 had their visit on Friday to see Kensuke's Kingdom.  The children all enjoyed their movies, and while they were out they displayed great behaviour - making the staff all very proud.

This week, the works have begun for the installation of the wonderful outdoor classroom.  Thank you to the Friend of Poverest again for all of their hard work in raising the funding for this.  The benefits of having an Outdoor Classroom include improving mental health and wellbeing, enhancing relationships with nature and providing a fun Forest School experience. The work has been going on during the week, giving the children in reception a great view of all the construction vehicles.  The contractors are aiming to be finished by today!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Focus Week - The Orchard

We are so excited to share some of the lovely learning that we have done this week in The Orchard.

On Tuesday we all attended the whole school Remembrance assembly and sat beautifully as we listened to the importance of this date.  We then continued this learning in our classrooms; Mulberry, Damson and Blossom and made gorgeous poppies in memory of those who died.

Other exciting learning experiences we have had this week include Blossom class reading the story The Ugly Five and then making junk models of the different animals from the story.

We had a really enjoyable interactive geography based lesson where we continued to develop our awareness of the different continents in the world.  The main focus of the learning this week was to compare the climates in each and we talked about how we thought it would feel to live somewhere hot and somewhere cold.

Forest School started this half term for The Orchard.  In Mulberry class, we have linked these sessions to our science work where we are looking at minibeasts and their habitats.  We searched under logs, looked into the soil and found different species in these areas.  We also created a wormery in our classroom using soil and leaves.

Then, selecting from a range of clothing dressed up our friends in clothing that we thought was suitable for different climates.  Do you think we dressed our friend for a hot or cold climate in this photo?
