Issue

We have reached the end of our first half-term and it has been wonderful to see how our new reception children have all settled into life at Poverest. My huge thanks to the teams in Willow, Walnut and Blossom for doing such a fantastic job.

Today we held our Grandparents' tea party, which was a lovely occasion for the children to share their talents with a group that would not always be able to attend performances due to the size of our hall. The children performed fantastically and we are all very proud of them and especially our reception year, who made their very first performance on the stage.

Our assemblies this week were slightly different, KS1 had an assembly linked to the United Nations and how that links with our 'United' school value. KS2 received a thank you assembly from the Bromley Food Bank for the food donated earlier in the term as part of our Harvest celebration.

I hope you all found our parents' evening this week informative. Many asked about data, but we only formally test our children three times a year, as teaching them more is much more valuable. Their end-of-autumn test scores will be emailed out just before Christmas.

Our Poverest family is also one more this week as Miss McIllmurray had a baby girl last Saturday, mum and baby are doing very well at home, and we look forward to seeing them in school soon.

I will end by thanking you all again for your support as we work together to ensure your children enjoy their time at school and learn as much as they possibly can. Do keep up the reading habit over the half-term break, and I wish you all a lovely two weeks with whatever you manage to do.

School starts again on Monday, the 3rd of November at the usual times.

Focus Week – Year 6

We are thrilled to share the highlights from our recent trip to the iconic Globe Theatre! The day was filled with laughter, creativity, and a deeper understanding of Shakespearean drama, as our children participated in an engaging drama workshop. Upon arrival, the children were immediately captivated by the stunning architecture of the theatre, a remarkable replica of the 16th-century playhouse where many of Shakespeare's plays were performed. Our knowledgeable guide introduced the students to the history of the Globe, sharing fascinating stories about its origins and the life of William Shakespeare. The workshop began with a warm-up session that encouraged creativity and teamwork. The students participated in fun games that helped them develop their acting skills and build confidence in expressing themselves. One of the highlights of the day was when the children were able to watch some of the actors practising a fight scene for their upcoming performance. All had a fabulous day.

Over the past few weeks, we have immersed ourselves in the enchanting world of fairy tales. Our journey has been filled with creativity, imagination, and storytelling, and we are excited to tell you how our students have engaged with this classic genre. To begin, we explored the key elements that make-up a fairy tale. The children learned about common themes, such as good versus evil, the importance of moral lessons, and the presence of magical elements. We discussed notable fairy tales from various cultures, examining how these stories often include familiar characters like heroes, villains, and magical creatures. After gaining a solid understanding of the essential features of fairy tales, the students embarked on a creative writing project where they wrote their own original fairy tales. The children truly embraced this challenge, and it was heartwarming to see their unique ideas come to life on paper.

We look forward to working with the children this academic year, with many exciting topics to come.
