Issue

The children enjoyed their African Dance Workshop this week and learning about black African History. The hall was full of smiles and fantastic synchronised movements. Year 6 also had a wonderful day at The Globe Theatre in London to support their English learning. The Globe is a fantastic place to visit and it is wonderful we are able to provide that opportunity to our children.

A reminder about our school street, the school street rules are set by law and we are asked to manage that on behalf of Bromley. The school does not make these rules and we are monitored to ensure they are followed. The school street must allow anyone with a Blue Badge (Disability Badge) access to the road and they are allowed to park on the double yellow lines. This is actually helpful to many parents in our Additionally Resourced Provision (The Meadow). We just ask that those with Blue Badges drive slowly down the road, even though it is officially 30MPH. Please be respectful and kind to everyone, including those on the barrier. We are told we should not allow cars down who have just forgotten their Blue Badge.

Next week we have our parents' evenings. These will be held in the main school hall and access will be through the hall door. You will have the chance to look at the children's English and Maths books before discussing how your child has settled into their new year group and the key targets they need to work on.

Also next week, we will be holding our Grandparents Tea Parties. There are plenty of other times in the year to see your child perform, and so this is just for Grandparents. We would love to have everyone in to see their child perform, but we don't have the space to host even one parent each. Which is why this event is just for the Grandparents who are lucky enough to live close enough to the school and have booked a ticket.

End of half-term next week is on Friday and pick-up is at the usual times.

Focus Week - Year 5

Year 5 have had a fantastic few weeks!  We thoroughly enjoyed the African dance workshop, planned as part of our Black History Month celebrations.  We have written biographies of influential and inspirational individuals of colour who have inspired in the fields of sport, music or politics and have researched their lives and legacy.  We were shocked at the discrimination and intolerance that was faced by our idols in their early lives.

Earlier this week, we read some real life mysteries - Bigfoot, crop circles and animal mysteries.  We have written our own newspaper article and illustrated them beautifully!

In maths, we have been learning to solve missing number problems which were quite challenging and a few of us were able to share our maths skills at a meeting of various schools at Bromley High School.  In art we have been looking at multimedia self portraits and were proud of our creations!  We had our first Reading Cafe where we were able to bring in our own cushions and blankets to snuggle up and read to a friend (we also had cookies!).

In our science lessons, we have been learning about separation and filtration - we made our own water filter and were amazed that we could turn muddy water into totally clean water!
