This week, our Year 2 and Year 6 children had their Fab First Aid training. It was great to see our children so enthusiastic and sensible, learning a potentially life-saving skill. They were so impressed with Year 6, they have offered to come back with the next level of first aid course with the real Resusci Anne in the new year for free! Well done Year 6!
Also, this week some of the children have attempted some coding challenges as part of National Coding Week. As I mentioned last week, another potentially great skill that will come in use to them in the future.
The parking attendant has visited our school street this week. Please be considerate of others using the shared road and please do not park on the double yellow lines unless you have a disabled badge.
This week our Governors had their first meeting of the year, electing our Chair and Vice-Chair. I'm pleased to say that both Sue and Michael continue in their roles from last year. Their support and challenge for the school is in perfect balance to ensure Poverest remains an excellent place for all to work and learn. I was delighted to share the fantastic end-of-year results the school achieved last year. Everyone has worked so hard to support the children. We have many more children at Poverest attaining higher than the national average at Greater Depth, showing that Poverest is a place where many children can attain the very top grades. A huge amount of credit to all the staff involved and of course, the children themselves, who read regularly and always had such great focus and attention in class.
The incredibly difficult choice of choosing our head boy and head girl occurred this week. The children who wanted to hold the role wrote a letter to me explaining why they would be suitable for the role. The letters were excellent and it was very hard to whittle them down for the interview. A few then arrived for questioning, and they all performed very well once again. In assembly today, I was delighted to announce the names of the four winning children.
Next week, we host our annual Weeks' Cup, which is our musical celebration of those children who play instruments. Each will perform and Mrs Weeks, our ex-headteacher, will be back to decide on this year's winner - an almost impossible job considering the talented musicians we have!
