Autumn Term Week 5

As this week was the start of Black History month we researched famous black people. We learnt all about their lives and achievements. We then created timelines of their lives on our Jamboards before turning the information into a biography.

In maths we have been consolidating our knowledge of short and long multiplication. We worked on our fluency skills, before applying our knowledge to problem-solving and reasoning.

In art we created our own microphotographs based around the work of Edward Western. We took close up photographs of natural objects around the school. We then used the editing tools to change the colours and size of our images.

Autumn Term Week 4

Continuing our Fairy Tales, we have, this week, written our own setting and character descriptions and have particularly enjoyed writing scary and ghoulish expanded noun phrases.

In maths, we have expanded our knowledge of working with decimals and in science, we have used Bob (our 3D human torso) to explain the whole circulatory system to our friends.

In art, we have enjoyed creating our own 'Truisms' - posters with a meaningful message.

Autumn Term Week 3

This week, Year 6 have begun their Fairytales with a Twist topic and have been reading the fantastic Zombierella.  As part of that learning we have been acting as journalists, reporting on the appalling murder of Mr Wolf by the Three Little Pigs!

In science we have learned about the structure of the blood and re-created the parts of the blood using some sweet treats. (Don't tell on us... but we ate them afterwards!).  In art we have been learning about the crazy life and works of Salvadore Dali and have re-created our own version of one of his classic paintings.

Autumn Term Week 2

This week we have been writing our application letters for roles within our school - Head Boy/Girl, Prefects, House Captains and Sports Captains.  In maths we have been looking at place value and in science we have been investigating the role of the heart in the circulatory system.

In our geography sessions we have been discovering the power of volcanic eruptions and the reason for their occurrence.  Additionally, we were delighted to welcome our new Spanish teacher and began learning the words for family members.

Autumn Term Week 1

What a fantastic start to year 6. The children have all settled in really well this week. They have created their own class charter and targets for the year.
We established our classroom routines and began to think about responsibilities the children might like to take on during the year. They then wrote application letters to Mrs Weeks to apply for the roles they would like.

We focused on our wellbeing art work this week and created abstract masks to represent different emotions.
