Cedar

Welcome to Year 2, Cedar Class!

Our class teacher is Mrs Rautenbach, and we are supported by Mrs Wheller and Mrs Smith.

We are very excited to be in Year 2 this year, where we will be learning about interesting new topics and acquiring a variety of valuable skills! Please do not hesitate to contact any of our staff via Class Dojo, or make an appointment to come and see us any time. We look forward to spending a year with your children,  growing and learning together.

Reading Records

Each child will be given an Accelerated reader book to read in school and at home, so please ensure your child brings their book to school every day, even if they have not finished reading it. At the end of the book, they will take a comprehension quiz on the iPad to review their learning. It would be beneficial to your child, if you ask questions throughout the book to ensure they are understanding what they have read. Once the quiz has been taken, they will change their book. Please sign your child's reading records and write comments if necessary, which will be checked every morning. It is recommended that a Year 2 child reads for 20 minutes a day.

Homework

Weekly homework will be given, which will usually consist of a spellings/phonics sheet, a maths sheet and literacy sheet. We will give the homework out on Thursday and it needs to be returned by Wednesday. If your child brings in their homework on time, they will receive Dojo points. However, if it is not handed in on time then your child will be required to stay in on Thursday break to complete the homework. Homework is beneficial as it allows your child to recap their learning and we can check their understanding.

PE Kits

Our school PE kit consists of blue/black shorts, a white t-shirt/polo shirt and plimsolls. In the winter, they may wear blue/black jogging bottoms and a blue/black jumper. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school every day as we may do extra activities throughout the week.

Topic

Our Topic for Autumn is the Great Fire of London. We will explore the origins of the fire and how London has changed since. Please view our Curriculum Map below for more information.
