Lacrosse

Bromley Schools Lacrosse.

On Thursday, two of our Lacrosse teams played in the Bromley school finals. 20 other teams took part. Throughout the day, both teams played some excellent Lacrosse and showed how good they were.
Our yellow team finished in second place and qualified for the Southern Regional Finals, where we will play against the best teams in the South of England.

Boys Football

On Tuesday afternoon the boys football team played away at Edgebury. The boys worked incredibly hard to get control of the game and dominated it from start to finish. Every player contributed and worked hard for the team. A super performance from all.

We have raised the funds! We are very close to getting a date booked in to have the Outdoor Classroom built. We cannot wait for the children to be fully immersed in outdoor learning.

Gymnastics Festival

On Wednesday a team of KS1 pupils competed in the Bromley schools Gymnastics festival. The festival included using a variety of gym equipment and performing a floor routine.
They were all absolutely amazing and looked so professional.

Girls Football Tournament

Our girls football team played in a 7 aside competition at St Mary’s School in Beckenham.
For many of the girls, it was their first taste of competitive football. The team played well and got better and better with every game.
There will be plenty of matches during this school year for both girls and boys teams.

Golf

Yesterday, our Golf team played in the Bromley schools golf invitational at Chelsfield Lakes. Played in teams of 3 over 9 holes the team was up against some really good players from other schools.

Our team play very steady golf and all contributed important shots during the round. This was rewarded with a score of 33 and won the competition by 1 shot.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Summer Fair. It was a lovely warm day with lots of activities, performances and games. We raised an amazing amount of money for our Outdoor Classroom.

Lacrosse Nationals - Finals

On Thursday our Lacrosse team travelled to Stoke on Trent to play in the National finals. The day started at 6am as we travelled to take on the best teams from Great Britain.

Our first two games were a baptism of fire as we played the eventual winners and runners up. We matched their effort and energy but were ultimately beaten by better teams. The standard of play was incredibly good (as you would expect at the national finals). We played our final group game and won a hard fought game.

The afternoon knock out stages started with a game against our local rivals Redhill. The game was end to end but unfortunately we just couldn’t get the result we needed to progress further in the competition.

We had blood, sweat and tears during the competition. Our commitment and work ethic was as good as any but were beaten by the medal winning teams. This year our team has experienced big wins this year and some defeats against the best teams.

Sport can be cruel. But without the pain of defeat you can’t have the joy of winning.

This team has set the bar very high for the children in years 3,4 and 5 to follow next year.

Girls Football League 2025

League Champions 2025
Our girls Football team have been crowned league Champions. This season the girls team have won every league match they’ve played.
The girls have worked incredibly hard throughout the season and always showed a super work ethic in games.

NFL Flag Football

NFL Flag Football Club members played two matches against St Nicholas Primary School yesterday afternoon.
All of our club members had an opportunity to experience competitive Flag Football and develop their understanding of a new sport at the school.

Sportathon

Today three teams from year 5 took part in a Sportathon at North West Kent college. 8 teams took part in a variety of sports events, scoring points in each.
We finished 1st and 2nd and also won the team relay at the end of the event.
The children were absolutely super and represented the school extremely well.

Girls Football

On Wednesday afternoon the girls football team played their final league game of the season against Churchfields school. The girls did what they’ve done in every game and worked incredibly hard, matched the other team physically and played some brilliant football.

The girls team have achieved something that no other Poverest team has ever done. They are undefeated in the league for a whole season. They should be very proud of themselves.

Bromley School Lacrosse

Bromley Schools Lacrosse 2025
Today two of our Lacrosse teams took part in the Bromley schools Lacrosse competition at Park House RFC. 25 schools played in leagues throughout the morning.
In the afternoon, teams competed in more matches with one of our teams qualifying for the Quarter Finals.
We played St James in a very close match but won 4-2.
In the semi-finals, we played the 2024 winners Perry Hall. The game was incredibly close and finished 3-3 meaning extra time. During extra time we scored two goals to win the match.
The final was against Red Hill, the only team to have beaten us in the league. The final was played in front of a big crowd and was an epic match. After some early goals for both teams we scored the winning goal to win the final 3-2.
All our players were fantastic and can be very proud of their play today.

Boys and Girls Football

Re-burying our Time Capsule

This afternoon, we buried our new 2024 time capsules along with the 2014 time capsules that we opened last week.
We were very surprised to find another time capsule when we were burying them, especially as it was the one that Mr Haylock had made with his Year 6 class ten years ago.
We look forward to opening them all again in 2034 and this time we have made sure that we know where they have all been buried by putting them in one big box.

We had an all school assembly online while watching the digging up of our 10 year buried time capsules. There has been great excitement while discovering the boxes and a whole bunch of learning around decomposing materials as the plastic containers outlasted the metal ones.
The rest of the school are now planning the next capsules to be buried to commemorate Poverest’s 70th birthday.

Cross Country

On Saturday, some children from year 5 and 6 ran in the Bromley Schools Cross Country event held at Crystal Palace Park. They all did so well and represented the school perfectly.

BMX LESSONS

On Monday, some of our year 5 girls went to Hobblingwell to ride BMX bikes with the end goal of being able to ride the pump track confidently.

The girls and boys team finished 2nd in their respective leagues. Thank you to all the children who have represented the school in all sports this year.

NFL Flag Football

We took part in a NFL Flag football afternoon at St Nicholas School. This is a very new sport to Poverest, the players have been working hard every week in order to learn the rules and set plays.
We will continue to practice and learn the game and will compete in the Bromley Schools Flag Football next year.

Bromley Schools Golf Competition

This week we took part in the inaugural Bromley Schools Golf Competition at Chelsfield Lakes Golf Club.
Poverest and Highfield competed on the 9 hole Par 3 course. The teams played well and showed some really good golf.
We will take part again next year and aim to grow the competition with more schools taking part.

School Games Gold Award 2023/2024

I'm very pleased to say that this afternoon the school was awarded a Gold standard for school sport. This is a national award and takes into account School PE, clubs, competitive sports and other opportunities that children get at Poverest.
Thank you for helping support school sport and make it as successful as it is. I believe our sports program is as good as any.
I am very proud of what we offer and want to make it even better in the coming years.

Computing Competition

We are so proud of Poverest for working well as a team, showing a huge amount of creativity and showing off their computing skills. We competed against 6 other schools and came 2nd! Well done 🌟

Cricket

Today, children from years 5 & 6 watched the West Indies play a warm up match for their tour of England. Our children were able to see top level cricket live and appreciate how fast the bowlers can bowl the ball.
The children got to meet some of the players and even played on the pitch during the lunch break.

National Tennis Centre

On Friday a group of year 5 girls were invited to attend a Tennis day at the National Tennis Centre hosted by Judy Murray. This day was sponsored by Morgan Stanley with the aim of getting more girls into Tennis and sport. Our girls took part in lots of tennis games lead by Judy but also got to work with WTA players Heather Watson, Johann Konta and Danielle Collins.

National Pop Lacrosse finals 2024

National Pop Lacrosse finals 2024.

Yesterday our Lacrosse team took part in the National finals. We travelled to Birmingham University to take on the best teams in Great Britain.
We played teams from Scotland, Macclesfield, Altrincham. The only teams to beat us were the eventual winners and the runners up. Our players ‘left it all on the court’ and didn’t have any regrets or excuses. They all showed an incredible work ethic, were incredibly competitive and showed good sportsmanship in both victory and defeat.
I am so incredibly proud of this team. They were a credit to the school.

Today we hosted a lower KS2 Lacrosse festival. 10 teams played extremely competitive matches. Year 6 children were brilliant team managers and referees.
Competitive sport allows our children to experience being part of a team as well as winning and losing.
We are very proud that children at Poverest are enthusiastic about sport and enjoy experiencing different types of sport.

On Thursday afternoon we took two teams to play Cricket against St Nicholas Primary School. Both teams played really well with some excellent batting and bowling.

This is the first year that we have been able to field two Cricket teams. It's been great seeing more and more children playing competitive Cricket in inter school competition.

Computing Education’s (NCCE) Computing Quality Mark award!

I'm so proud to announce that Poverest has achieved the National Centre for Computing Education’s (NCCE) Computing Quality Mark award!

We have shown exemplary practice in our Computing curriculum and have provided outstanding evidence to achieve this award.

This shows that our Computing teaching and curriculum at Poverest is of a high quality. We proudly keep this award for the next three years!

Lacrosse Reginal Finals

We took part in the Lacrosse regional finals at Surrey University. The standard was incredibly high in all the matches we played.

We finished in the top 4 which means we qualified for the National finals in Birmingham. This is the second year in a row we have qualified for the nationals. We will have the opportunity to play against the best teams in Britain again.

Junior Mathematical Challenge

The results are in! A few weeks ago, these children took part in the Junior Mathematical challenge. This was a really hard mathematical challenge where it encouraged reasoning, precision of thought and fluency. Although we were not placed, each child earned themselves at least 20 points. This meant that all children got at least 4 questions correct. This is amazing as we were up against children from year 6 up to year 8! I’m so proud of everyone! 🎉🥇
We will be entering again next year.

Neal Zetter - Author visit

This afternoon we had a visit from author and poet, Neal Zetter! It was very exciting to listen to him performing his poetry and the children all had a chance to join in, too! He also gave us the opportunity to ask questions and gave us an insight into life as a poet and author. What a brilliant end to the week!

Junior Maths Challange

Today these children took part in the Junior Maths Challenge. This is a challenge where it encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency to make students think. They all did fantastically well and should all be proud of themselves. We will find out how well we did in a few weeks. 🤞

Aaron and Yesim are pleased to announce that they finished the Brighton Marathon and raised an amazing £1116 for the Friends of Poverest! Congratulations!

The money raised will go towards supporting activities and providing resources for students at our school.

Easter Raffle

I am delighted to share that our Easter Egg raffle, organised by the PTA, has been a tremendous success. Together, we raised an impressive £885 for the benefit of our children. I would like to also extend a massive thank you to Mrs. Williams, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Gunn, and all the Year 5 and Year 6 students who dedicated their time and effort to selling the tickets and preparing the prizes.

This afternoon our Football team took part in a match with Farnborough Primary School. It proved to great entertainment with lots of shots and some great saves from both goal keepers.

Lacrosse

This morning we played in the Bromley Schools Lacrosse 🥍 competition. 21 teams competed in group games with 4 going to the semi-final. Our orange team made it through to the final and faced Perry Hall. The final was a great battle with Perry Hall eventually winning.

We have now qualified for the Southern regional finals for the second year in a row.
